The idea was to create a rug that evokes a beautiful piece of handcrafted fabric—one of those finds you sometimes stumble upon while traveling. With its irregularities, unlikely joins and subtle dye “accidents,” it carries a poetic dimension that enriches the discovery. To work with pure wool, the looped tufting technique, with its distinctly textile feel, quickly became the obvious choice. In this oversized pattern unfurled beneath our feet, the full subtlety of a palette of browns, greens, tawny hues and khakis comes clearly into view—earth and foliage tones that are emblematic of our “landscape rugs.” This landscape is punctuated by clearings: threads, runs and drips of pink, pale blue and pure white, bringing relief and luminosity. Neither imposing nor demonstrative, this rug knows how to play softly into its surroundings—yet can also assert its own personality, depending on the setting.
