From a distance, it appears as an elegant, lightweight coffee table, ready to blend seamlessly into any interior. Up close, however, it tells a very different story. A true feat of cabinetmaking, its tabletop is an assembly of greige-stained oak elements, very slightly “tiled,” each one hollowed out by the artisan within the thickness of the wood.
The surface then undulates almost imperceptibly, subtly unsettling the eye—much like approaching a work of kinetic art. To the touch, however, the relief becomes unmistakable, carefully designed so as never to compromise functionality. Along the legs and at the edge of the tabletop, the undulating movement grows more pronounced. Gentle variations in level are carved into slender oak components, lending the whole piece even greater suppleness and fluidity. At first glance, simple yet ultra-sophisticated, the discreet Gifu table hides its true complexity well.
